Trenton New Jersey Citizen Action, the state's largest consumer watchdog organization, has announced the endorsement by its Political Action Committee of Senator Jon Corzine for Governor of the State of New Jersey at a press conference held today in Trenton, NJ.
"The choice is clear. Jon Corzine is right on our issues and he's right for New Jersey, stated Phyllis Salowe-Kaye, Executive Director of NJCA. "He brings the necessary mix of experience, ideas and character to the race and will lead New Jersey in the right direction as our next Governor."
Leaders from member organizations outlined the basis on which the endorsement was made, emphasizing the vast differences of the two candidates on the issues that affected the organization's 60,000 members located throughout the state.
Calling Forrester's support for federal legislation that would exempt Association Health Plans (AHPs) from consumer protection laws "an insult to every New Jersey resident", Paulette Eberle, Co-Chair of the NJCA Board, stated, "Doug Forrester has not articulated a comprehensive healthcare agenda. What he has done instead is to publicly support bills (S.406 and H.R. 525) that would increase the cost of healthcare in NJ, eliminate our ability to appeal denials and have a disproportionately negative impact on minorities and people with disabilities."
Pointing to the clear differences between the two candidates on a wide variety of issues (education, housing, campaign finance reform, ethics and voter rights), members of the NJCA PAC emphasized that Jon Corzine has earned the group's trust as a U.S. Senator, proving his ability to work with diverse groups while serving the needs of New Jersey's working families.
"Jon Corzine will be a Governor who will bring integrity to New Jersey as he strives to make New Jersey a safer and more affordable state in which to work and live", stated David Weiner, President of CWA 1081 and NJCA Co-Chair.
